Description

This class will teach students, step-by-step, the process of creating their own, personalized, book.  Books are commonly used for journaling, photos display and to keep memorabilia. Before the class even begins the students will have an opportunity to discuss their choice of theme and decoration. All materials will be supplied. The following is a description of what we will complete in each class. $100 supply fee upon registering is due to the instructor.

Tuesday,  2-4 p.m., 6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/2, 7/9 F2F

  • Choose and cut the papers to size. We will also die some of the papers with coffee and tea stain and other light colors. Stencil or dye blank pages. Build/arrange into signatures.  There will be 2-3 signatures of 8-10 pages each. Finish the pages from the previous week and put the signatures together.  Create “signature covers” and learn how to make paper snippets (these are made from collaged paper that they cut the previous weeks, and they will make a min. of 6—2 per signature) and pockets (minimum of 2 per signature, and affix.  Anything not completed is homework!
  • This class will focus on making inclusions/treasures for the inside of the book: altered paperclips, decorated tags, mini notebooks, fold-out pages, two types of bookmarks, envelopes, lunch bag pocket, origami folding and more. This will be a fun class and more inclusions can be made at home if desired.
  • We will begin decorating pages with small clusters and other embellishments (die cuts, flat things like buttons and jewels and any pull a-parts that are applicable.) We will also pick/cut journaling prompts, quotes and phrases to glue into the book (as “headlines” for writing pages.
  • We will complete the signatures and staple them together. We will also add our lace, trim, and fabrics to the book pages in this session.
  • We will use chip board and DSP to create the journal cover. The chipboard will be cut to size, wrapped in paper and decorated. This will take some time to do (includes front cover, back cover and spine) but once done we’ll add the signatures in and complete the journal!
