2025-03-01: SALT Jewelry Making Class, Cathy Hatch

Each week students will learn a new jewelry-making technique and will be given ample supplies to make as many pieces of jewelry as possible in the time allotted. As the weeks continue, students will build additional skills and make more complex projects. All supplies and tools will be supplied. Class Fee $20 per class, (due to instructor when class begins, or all at once at the beginning of the first class).

  • Week 1- Introduction and Bracelets. Will include introduction to tools, stringing wire, discussion of findings and practice crimping. The finished pieces of jewelry will be bracelets.
  • Week 2--One Strand Necklaces. Class will include a discussion of size and proportion in jewelry-making and how to create a pleasing, yet simple design. The finished pieces of jewelry will be one-strand necklaces with pendants.
  • Week 3-Earrings. The class will describe earring-making, balance, weight and design. Will employ special tools and findings to use while making earrings. The finished piece of jewelry will be three-four pairs of earrings.
  • Week 4-Double Strand Necklaces. The class will include the special findings used for making a double strand necklace, considerations for length and proper drape and proper closure for necklace. The finished pieces of jewelry will be double strand necklaces.
  • Week 5-Wire Wrap Bracelets and Necklaces. This class will explore the use of semi-hard wrapping wire in the making of bracelets and necklaces. The finished pieces of jewelry will be bracelets and necklaces.
